New Technical Experts join TAM International

Gregory Gomulka joins TAM International as Group Technical Manager – Construction Systems
Dr Roar Mydral Joins TAM International as Group Technical Director – Tunnelling and Mining

We are delighted to welcome both Gregory Gomulka and Roar Mydral to the TAM International team. Gregory officially joins us on August 5th 2010 and will head up our technical team for Polyurethanes and Injection systems. Roar will be joining TAM on September 15th 2010 and will be responsible for heading up the R&D and technical team for the Tunnelling and Mining business unit.

Gregory Gomulka

With over 25 years experience as a Polyurethane (PUR) Chemist, Gregory is widely regarded as a prominent expert in this field. His experience includes working for major International chemical groups where he has headed up technical project teams in product development and marketing and for several years as an Independent Polyurethane consultant in Europe.  Gregory brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise and is an invaluable addition to the TAM International Team.  He will be based in Switzerland but will travel extensively to support the global expansion of our Construction Chemical business.

We look forward to working alongside Gregory to further expand and develop TAM’s construction chemical offering and I am sure you will all give him a warm welcome when he visits all of our global operations.

Roar Myrdal

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Roar Myrdal to the TAM International team. Roar will also be based in Europe and will work closely with both TAM and Normet, focusing on speciality Tunnelling and Mining construction chemicals. He will report to Odd-Bjørn Kleven, COO of Tam International Group and Director of Normet.

Dr. Mydral has a doctoral degree in chemistry and holds an adjunct professorship in concrete technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He has published more than 50 international papers and reports on chemistry and concrete technology related topics. Roar is well-known for his contribution to the development of chemical admixtures for concrete and has played a key role in the development of alkali-free accelerators for sprayed concrete.

Roar has been working with concrete technology since the early 1990s in the fields of industry, the public road authorities and research institutes. Before joining TAM, Dr. Myrdal has been working as a senior scientist at SINTEF (a leading international research institute and the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia), and as a member of the management group in COIN (Concrete Innovation Centre at SINTEF). His other experiences include head of R&D at a global producer of construction chemicals, Rescon Mapei. With his profound knowledge and broad experience in research projects and industrial cooperation internationally, we are delighted to have this valuable addition to the TAM International team.

We wish him every success in his new role and look forward to working alongside Roar in the expansion and development of TAM’s Tunnelling & Mining chemicals.

Lee Shelton appointed Managing Director of TAM Hong Kong

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Lee Shelton as Managing Director of TAM Hong Kong with effect from 1st September 2010. In this expanded role, Lee will be focused on exploiting new potential market opportunities and tightening operational control of the business in Hong Kong. Apart from the additional responsibilities as the MD – TAM HK, he will continue on with his current duties for Norman Hay and as the CIO for the TAM/Normet JV, where he is a member of the Executive Committee Board and management team.

TAM International forms a global partnership with the Normet Group

TAM International Ltd, has sold 40% of the issued share capital to the Normet Group (“Normet”), a global manufacturer and distributor of equipment for mining and underground construction.

The joint venture will bring together the construction chemical products of TAM with Normet’s world leading range of equipment for concrete spraying, explosive charging and underground logistics for the tunnelling and mining industry.

Normet’s 23 global outlets will provide TAM international with significantly increased distribution capability.

Vic Bellanti, Chief Executive of Norman Hay plc (TAM’s parent company), commented:

“The business activities of TAM and Normet are extremely complementary. Whilst we made significant progress in developing TAM’s business in 2009, the global reach and extensive sales and distribution network of Normet will enable us to further expand TAM’s client base rapidly. We will also be able to offer customers a far more efficient package for their tunnelling and mining requirements”.

Singapore Newly Renovated Office

To cope with the continued growth of the TAM business in the Asia Pacific region our Singapore office has recently been enlarged and fully renovated to better reflect the new corporate image.

As well as an increase in office space, Singapore now has a fully tooled service centre offering maintenance and support for all the Tam equipment range.

As part of its expansion into the Tunneling and Mining Sector and increased export activity in the ASEAN region, the Singapore facility now allows TAM to take full advantage of the opportunities available.

During a recent visit to the Asia Pacific region, Mr Peter Hay (Chairman) and Mr Vic Bellanti (CEO) of TAM’s parent company "Norman Hay" had great pleasure in officially opening the new TAM Singapore facilities. The pictures below show the recent opening.

ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Programme

The Society of Rock mechanics and Enginnering Geology Singapore (SRMEG), with the support of the Building and Construction Authority Singapore (BCA), proudly organized Singapore’s 1st “ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Programme” in October this year. This programme was an important milestone for the construction industry in Singapore and Asia, as never before has the ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Program been conducted outside North America. TAM International was delighted to participate and be part of this programme and is looking forward to promoting and providing shotcreting excellence in Asia.

TAM International - Tunnelling and Mining division’s Mr. Ritchard Hood, Mr. Lee Kah Fai and Mr. Alve Rutgersson have completed Singapore’s 1st ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Programme which was held between the 7th to 9th October 2009. They were amongst the first shotcrete nozzlemen in Asia to pass the ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification .

The "ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Programme" aims to provide the nozzleman with improved shotcreting knowledge and skills but more importantly International recognition as a professional trade.
