| The Project |
Halcrow Engineers of Swindon approached TAM to discuss an issue they had on the newly constructed Edinburgh Bus Route. |
| The Challenge |
A 2 kilometre stretch of the bus route that utilised a concrete deck had suffered cracking down and this had passed the steel reinforcement in numerous locations throughout the length of the route. Due to the aggressive traffic environment, concern had arisen to the possible corrosion of the underlying steel reinforcement bars which would seriously reduce the life span of the structure. As the bus route was in constant active service, there was a limited time scale and the use of conventional injection materials was impracticable. |
| The Solution |
TAM was contacted to design a solution that would minimise disruption and provide a complete and fast solution. After consultation with Halcrow and the Edinburgh Highways Authority and after a site inspection, TAM proposed a unique repair method utilising a specialist sodium silicate based solution. This material was gravity fed into the prepared cracks along the route and proved a fast, efficient and cost effective method of repair. |
